Ha -- great story! During my 40 years working on set n Hollywood and beyond (set lighting), I never saw extras pull something like this ... but very early in my career I did something similar behind the camera.
This was great fun to read. Reminds me of my movie extra days here in Ireland, when I, somehow, inexplicably, got through all the barriers by confidently waving at security, and ended up driving my car straight onto a movie set. I found out pretty quickly that movie extras must not, under any circumstances, be seen, but fade into the background, like Homer into the hedge.
